Douglas Thompson has more than 25 years’ international experience in the mining sector. Douglas joined Coronado from CIMIC Group where he held the role of Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Thiess since 2017. In addition to these accountabilities, in the role of Mining and Mineral Processing Executive, Douglas was responsible for leading CIMIC Group’s operating company Sedgman. His strong industry reputation lies in driving operational excellence and developing greater in-house capability to deliver increased shareholder value and business growth.

Prior to this, he held leadership roles with Gold Fields in South Africa. Douglas holds a National Higher Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from Cape Peninsula University of Technology, a Bachelor of Science (Honors) Engineering Mining from the University of Witwatersrand and has completed an International Executive Development Program with the University of Cambridge Business School; University of Witwatersrand. Douglas is also a Chartered Professional Engineer and Fellow of Engineers Australia and AusIMM.

As Chief Executive Officer, Douglas is ultimately responsible for ensuring the successful delivery of Coronado’s financial, operational, safety, people and environmental targets and strategies.
