Case study
Rock solid future workshop
As part of Coronado Global Resources’ ongoing commitment to building future capability in the resources sector, Coronado proudly supported the Rock Solid Futures Workshop, delivered in partnership with the Queensland Minerals and Energy Academy (QMEA) at Rockhampton Girls Grammar School on 20 November 2025.
The workshop brought together 36 students in a hands-on learning experience that connected classroom learning with real-world applications in mining and resources. Through STEM-based activities, trade simulations such as electrical circuit building and simulated welding, and open discussions about career pathways, students gained practical insight into the diverse opportunities available across the industry.
Coronado representatives Mariah Lee Jones (Environmental Advisor), Yihang ‘Betty’ Sun (Graduate Electrical Engineer), and Godbless Banda (Graduate Mining Engineer) shared their personal career journeys, providing relatable and inspiring examples of pathways into environmental science, engineering, and mining. Their openness and enthusiasm encouraged strong student engagement, with thoughtful questions and discussion throughout the session.
Overall, the Rock-Solid Futures Workshop strengthened industry–education partnerships, expanded students’ awareness of career opportunities, and reinforced Coronado’s role in developing the future resources workforce, while supporting greater gender diversity across STEM, trade, and engineering pathways.
