Case study
Coronado and QMEA partnership
At Coronado Global Resources Inc., we’re committed to inspiring the next generation and supporting our local communities through our partnership with the Queensland Minerals and Energy Academy (QMEA). Together, we’ve delivered two engaging workshops this year, with two more planned, all aimed at sparking student interest in STEM and careers in the resources sector.
Earlier this year, we partnered with QMEA for the Tradies for a Day workshop at Blackwater High School. Year 10 students gained valuable hands-on experience and heard directly from our team – Roy McGregor, Logan Brown, Deon Cameron, and Adam Ormsby, who shared insights into the wide range of trade careers available in mining. The students’ enthusiasm and curiosity made a strong impression on our team.
In June, we returned to Blackwater to deliver the Mining BIG Ideas workshop at Blackwater State School. This interactive session for Year 3–6 students included activities like plane design, robot programming, and a Q&A with our team members Jen Kellett, Cameron Sampson, and Shivam Kumar. The students were highly engaged and left with a better understanding of how STEM skills connect to real-world roles in mining.
These workshops are just one way we’re helping shape future talent and shift perceptions of the mining industry. We look forward to continuing this important work with QMEA and supporting the next generation of resource sector leaders.
