A milestone in Curragh's rehabilitation journey

In December 2025, the Queensland State Government approved the Progressive Rehabilitation and Closure Plan (PRCP) for the Curragh Mine, a significant milestone that formalises rehabilitation and closure commitments we have been delivering on the ground for decades. The plan sets out how mined land will be returned to a condition that is safe, stable, non-polluting and ready to support productive future use.

Mining at Curragh began in 1983. In the years since, we have established more than 2,000 hectares of rehabilitation, backed by one of the longest rehabilitation monitoring records in the region. This track record demonstrates a proven methodology and a genuine commitment to sustainable, long-term outcomes.

More than a regulatory requirement, the PRCP reflects how we think about the country we operate . The rehabilitated landform is designed as a connected mosaic of post-mining land uses which consists of productive cattle grazing, native woodland and revegetated watercourses. Together these link with the surrounding landscape to support habitat and ecological connectivity, in keeping with the site’s rural setting.

Looking ahead, the plan gives our workforce, landholders, neighbours and the wider community confidence about what comes next. It is a forward-looking, transparent and accountable approach to mine closure, and a reflection of our commitment to leaving behind a landscape that is ecologically resilient for generations to come.
